An Engagement To Remember

Mauricio Rodriguez, EPIC Engagement Guru

Passion. Patience. Creativity. Resourcefulness. We’re all familiar with the characteristics and expertise that go into being a sought after wedding planner, whose goal is to ensure that the groom and bride-to-be’s wedding dreams become a reality. Kimpton EPIC Hotel is blessing those ready to get down on one knee with another type of savior, one who puts the same amount of care and attentiveness into planning the monumental moment that starts it all. The Proposal. That’s right! Kimpton EPIC Hotel is happy to introduce their Engagement Guru, Mauricio Rodriguez, who’s here to help you schedule and coordinate your future proposal on property. Through his expertise, Mauricio will alleviate the anxiety and answer the important questions, so you can focus on asking the most important question of them all. Will You Marry Me?

So much attention of an engagement is focused on the excitement after the significant other pops the question, that rarely do we take a moment to consider the amount of stress, careful planning, (and months of hiding the ring!) that goes into this life-changing proposal. Kimpton EPIC Hotel and Mauricio have shared their most thoughtful advice below, so that when the time comes, you can join them in Downtown Miami, and take the first step to saying I do.

Best place to pop the question on property?

"This may sound biased, but nothing beats the views from EPIC's Area 31 rooftop restaurant & bar. Whether it's over dinner in the outdoor dining patio, or poolside, nighttime or daytime, it's an unbeatable view of Brickell and Biscayne Bay that can’t be matched."

Creative ways to get engaged?

"So far, the best engagement I've seen was done in Miami Beach at sundown. He had a castle-shaped sculpture made of candles built with the words 'Alyssa will you marry me?' set up in the center. The aesthetic was amazing."

Favorite Champagne to toast with?

"My personal favorite champagne to toast with is Perrier-Jouet Brut or Rose."

Favorite engagement story?

"My favorite would have to be one of a personal friend of mine. He had asked me to help find him a sailboat rental company and prepare the setup and décor prior to their arrival. I had stocked this classic sailboat with champagne, candles and roses. Though I wasn’t there during the proposal, his description of the sunset backdrop over the Miami skyline seemed flawless and she did say YES!"

Best property suite to cuddle up after the proposal?

"Water view One Bedroom Suite has the best views of Biscayne Bay; preferably those ending in -01."

Most sought after Miami photographer and best place to take photos?

"We work closely with Tony Barreau of AVD Pics, a local photographer with years of experience. Our most popular spots for pics are at Area 31 or our Epic Marina, full of Million Dollar Yachts. If someone's looking to go off property, the Perez Art Museum/Museum Park is a new favorite and Vizcaya is a classic pick."

Tell us more about Kimpton EPIC Hotel's one-of-a-kind experience with Tiffany & Co.

"Tiffany's has provided our guests with a private tour of the store in the Design District where our guests are able to meet with Tiffany's gemologist who will educate them on their jewelry as well as help choose the perfect engagement ring down to the cut, size, and color."

Make it a family affair! Best place to host the parents at the hotel, so that they can share this special moment?

"Whether you have a small or large family, Area 31 can offer accommodations such as outside seating overlooking Biscayne Bay or a private dining room capable of seating up to 15."

Favorite dessert dish on the menu?

"To make me pick just one is difficult, but I would say I definitely find myself craving Area 31's Key Lime Bar. It's the perfect balance of refreshing and sweet. But... being as we're in Miami, my personal favorite ending to a meal is a good cocktail. One of our sweetest cocktails at Lilt Lounge is the "Malcom," with Vodka, house-made strawberry shrub, lemon, prosecco and basil.”

Best time of year to get engaged in Miami?

"I'd say between early December to Valentine's Day is Miami's prime proposal season."

Things to do in Miami following the engagement?

"Following an engagement one can have a sunset dinner at one of Miami's many waterside restaurants, like the acclaimed ZUMA conveniently located in our lobby, book a couple's massage at Exhale Spa, or if they’re feeling adventurous, go parasailing and trying out other watersports."

Once the engagement is a success and she says yes, let Kimpton EPIC Hotel share in the moment of planning the big day, too! Our seasoned wedding manager is ready to take your wedding vision and make it into the most magical moments, whether you're entertaining 50 guests or 500.
